It is a compressed air dryer that removes moisture using desiccant media such as activated alumina or molecular sieves. Air passes through a vessel filled with desiccant, which adsorbs the water vapor and delivers very dry air; while one vessel dries, the other is regenerated, so the two towers alternate automatically to provide a continuous supply of dry air.
Adsorption dryers deliver pressure dew points from −20°C down to −40°C or even −70°C, depending on the desiccant and configuration. Choose the grade that matches your process: −20°C for general low-humidity needs, −40°C for food, electronics and pneumatics, and −70°C for critical applications such as instrument air, semiconductor and pharmaceutical processes.

Purge air is a portion of dried air used to regenerate the desiccant and is exhausted — typically 5–15% of rated flow depending on type. Lower purge designs (heated or heat-of-compression) cost more upfront but save energy over time. For a 24/7 plant, we calculate the lifetime cost of purge loss for each type so you can choose wisely.
Sizing considers air flow, working pressure, inlet air temperature, ambient temperature, and the required outlet dew point. Higher inlet temperature reduces capacity, so dryers are often rated with a pre-dryer or aftercooler upstream. Yes, in most cases. Cooling the air first with a refrigerated dryer or aftercooler removes bulk moisture and heat before the adsorption stage, protecting the desiccant and reducing purge load. A combined package — refrigerated pre-dryer + adsorption dryer — is the standard, most economical configuration.
Desiccant life depends on inlet conditions and regeneration quality — typically 3–5 years for activated alumina and 2–4 years for molecular sieves under proper operation. We supply genuine desiccant refill kits and a simple replacement procedure, and the pressure dew point monitor tells you when the desiccant is degrading.
Routine maintenance covers the inlet filters, automatic drains, valves and desiccant inspection on schedule; the control system prompts service reminders. Heated types additionally need heater element checks. With an annual service kit, these dryers run reliably for many years.
A well-designed adsorption dryer adds a pressure drop of roughly 0.15–0.3 bar at rated flow through the vessels and internals. We publish the pressure drop curve for every model so you can account for it in system design.
Yes. Optional dew point sensors provide continuous outlet monitoring with alarms, and dew-point-dependent control (DPC) automatically switches the dryer into standby or extends cycle time when air demand or humidity is low — reducing purge loss and energy consumption by up to 30–50% under light load.
Place the dryer on a level floor with service clearance, connect it downstream of the pre-treatment (receiver, refrigerated dryer or aftercooler), and provide power and drain connections.
